Safety notes
Boat traffic (Straits of Malacca shipping lane and day-tripper boat congestion), reduced visibility from sediment, periodic marine-park capacity restrictions limiting access
Permits & fees
A Marine Park entry permit/conservation fee is required, arranged through tour operators. Published 2026 package pricing from the park's operator (pulaupayar.com): beach snorkeling RM170 (Malaysian)/RM200 (foreigner); platform snorkeling RM290/RM355; introductory dive RM425/RM460; fun dive RM400/RM457. Following coral-bleaching concerns, the park was reported (Divernet, The Vibes) to have reopened with visitor numbers capped at roughly 100/week (about 20/day), open 5 days a week, with one operator described as the sole authorized concessionaire at the time of reporting; at least one Langkawi dive shop's own site describes Payar as "currently closed to tourists due to conservation," so current access should be reconfirmed directly with a local operator before a trip
