Snorkelling

Not a snorkel site - Limited - Manacles is an exposed offshore reef with tidal current, primarily a boat-scuba site rather than a snorkel site; calmer inshore Porthkerris waters nearby are more snorkel-friendly

Safety notes

Notorious ship-wrecking reef with 50+ recorded wrecks over the centuries (reflecting a treacherous reputation going back to the SS Mohegan disaster of 1898); strong tidal currents especially on springs; boat traffic; requires accurate slack-water timing and an experienced skipper

Permits & fees

No dive permit/licence required (not a licensed protected wreck site); MCZ byelaws apply protecting reef habitat and marine life; no landing fee (offshore reef, no island to land on)
