Certification & difficulty

Open Water

Snorkelling

Snorkel-friendly - Yes - considered one of Maui's best snorkel sites for coral and fish diversity; summer (May-Sep) only, dangerous in winter surf

Safety notes

No lifeguard; winter rip currents/heavy surf; runoff after rain reduces visibility and can carry pathogens; rocky/boulder entry; it is a designated Marine Life Conservation District (MLCD) - taking or disturbing any marine life, coral, sand or geological feature is strictly prohibited by law; protected sea turtles and occasional monk seals present

Permits & fees

No entrance fee; free but very limited dirt-lot/roadside parking (arrive early). As an MLCD, fishing/collecting/anchoring and any taking of marine life or coral is prohibited by Hawaii DLNR/DAR regulation (permit only for specific akule net fishing outside the district) - contact DAR at 808-587-0100 for current rules

Permits and operators change - confirm before booking.
