Certification & difficulty

Open Water

Snorkelling

Not a snorkel site - Limited - some snorkeling near the shallow pilings, but scuba is the more common/recommended way to see the wreckage and marine life

Safety notes

Sharp metal/concrete pier debris, dense sea urchin populations on the wreckage, rip currents during heavy surf, occasional poor visibility after rain; boat/mooring-field traffic overhead; protected sea turtles present (do not touch/approach); site is immediately adjacent to the Lahaina wildfire burn zone (August 2023) - check current conditions/road access before visiting as recovery work continues in the area

Permits & fees

No entrance fee for the shore dive itself; the adjacent Mala Wharf boat ramp facility had permit fees waived by DLNR/DOBOR following the 2023 wildfire, with commercial permits placed in holdover status during harbor rebuilding - confirm current status with DOBOR Maui District Office (808-243-5824)

Permits and operators change - confirm before booking.
