Sharp lava rock entry/exit (cuts/scrapes common without footwear), surge and rip currents especially near cave openings and in any swell, overhead/cave environment risk in the lava tubes, occasional High Surf Advisory closures; Pupukea is a Marine Life Conservation District (est. 1983) - no touching, collecting, or removing marine life, coral, or rock; monk seals are federally protected (stay back 15m/50ft, 45m/150ft from mother-pup pairs) and sea turtles require 3m/10ft minimum distance - never touch or chase
