Best time to dive

January to December; December to April; July to October

Certification & difficulty

Technical - advanced conditions (currents/depth); dive within your training.

Snorkelling

Not a snorkel site - No - deep wreck.

Safety notes

Serious dive: many holds contain live munitions and ordnance - do not touch or disturb. Wreck penetration is an overhead environment (silt-out, entanglement, entrapment risk) and the wrecks are war graves to be treated with respect. Remote location - factor in evacuation/chamber access and dive conservatively. Historical note: she sank on 7 Oct 1943 after an accidental fire reached her ammunition/fuel cargo (before Operation Hailstone); the firefighting vessel Ojima, tied alongside, sank with her.

Permits & fees

Chuuk State dive/wreck permit and fees apply, arranged through the operator. The wrecks are protected war graves and historic sites - penetration is allowed but removing or disturbing artifacts or remains is prohibited. Confirm current fees and rules before booking.
