Strong tidal currents/suction outside slack water; entanglement risk from severed/derelict fishing nets in the area; legally protected historic site - unauthorized diving and interior entry are prohibited; site was previously a magnet for illegal artifact removal before protection.

Yes - UC-71 was entered into the Schleswig-Holstein state list of protected monuments by the Archaeological State Office (ALSH, Archaologisches Landesamt Schleswig-Holstein) on 20 July 2015; the wreck has heritage/war-grave protection and unauthorized diving is prohibited; only authorized survey teams (e.g., Submaris/University of Dundee archaeological project) are documented diving it in recent years.
