Best time to dive

Season varies - confirm locally

Certification & difficulty

Advanced Open Water - advanced conditions (currents/depth); dive within your training.

Snorkelling

Not a snorkel site - Limited - some operators offer snorkeling around grounded icebergs (e.g. Red Island area) as a lower-risk alternative to diving, but iceberg rollover risk remains and guides restrict distance

Safety notes

Iceberg calving/rollover and instability, ice caves (entry strictly prohibited), extreme cold and equipment freezing risk, halocline blurring vision and buoyancy, no hyperbaric chamber in Greenland (nearest recompression facility is in Iceland, ~2hr flight), extreme remoteness

Permits & fees

No dive-specific permit found; visits are via licensed expedition cruise/liveaboard operators handling Greenland port and East Greenland landing formalities; Northeast Greenland National Park (just north of Scoresby Sund) requires a separate expedition permit if itineraries extend into it - VERIFY

Permits and operators change - confirm before booking.
