Snorkel-friendly - Yes - lagoon snorkeling is excellent and is how most visitors experience the shark nursery and stingray flats

Strong tidal currents at atoll passes/channels, very remote location with limited emergency/medical support, sensitive nursery habitat (careful buoyancy/no-touch required)

Permits & fees

St Joseph Atoll (with neighbouring D'Arros) is a privately managed, restricted-access site run by the Save Our Seas Foundation D'Arros Research Centre; a proposed marine protected area bans fishing within 1km of the islands and prohibits development - visits are only via authorized Blue Safari (Desroches) excursions or approved outer-island expedition/liveaboard itineraries, not independent travel
