Es Freus lies within the Ses Salines d'Eivissa i Formentera Natural Park / Els Freus Marine Reserve (~13,617 ha total, the 2nd-largest Mediterranean marine protected area in Spain). A core 'integral reserve' zone (~4 km², marked by buoys) bans anchoring, all fishing, and scuba diving without authorization.
