Submerged rocks near the surface, surge/surf on entry-exit, sea lion aggression (particularly if fed or approached too closely - feeding wildlife is illegal under the federal Marine Mammal Protection Act and is a documented, contested problem at this site), heavy recreational/boat/kayak traffic, crowding; strict no-take rules as part of the Matlahuayl State Marine Reserve (unlawful to take or disturb any living, geological, or cultural marine resource, including shells and rocks)

No permit or fee for diving/snorkeling - free public access. Dive flag legally required. As a no-take State Marine Reserve, a CA sport fishing license does not authorize any take here
