Submerged rocks near the surface, surge/surf on entry-exit, sea lion aggression (particularly if fed or approached too closely - feeding wildlife is illegal under the federal Marine Mammal Protection Act and is a documented, contested problem at this site), heavy recreational/boat/kayak traffic, crowding; strict no-take rules as part of the Matlahuayl State Marine Reserve (unlawful to take or disturb any living, geological, or cultural marine resource, including shells and rocks)
